A Tale of Two Swimmers

Two swimmers.
Two brothers.
Two vastly different styles and events!

Toby loves the butterfly.
He knows exactly what his personal best times are at any given moment.  He has been focusing on his 50 Fly and has been determined to make the ever-elusive regional times.  He is "stuck" at a time of 44.78 seconds. Regional time for his age group in this event is a 41.99.  He is ecstatic when he beats his times but tearful when he does not.

Jonah has discovered distance swimming.  His favorite event is the 500 yard freestyle and he has been steadily chipping away at his time in the year that he has been swimming this event.  From an initial 7:15 time, he has gradually whittled away this time in his fall swim meets.  Two weeks ago he swam 6:16.76.

In order to qualify for the Midwest YMCA Regional meet, he must swim it in 6:03.19.  He and his teammate/ chief strategist Matt have decided upon a plan: he should drop 10 seconds in sectionals and the remainder at State.

In addition to this event, Jonah is also within a couple of seconds of regional time in his 100 Freestyle.

We are nearly at the end of the swim season. We are at the sectional meet as I write this.  If the boys swim fast enough in today's sectional meet (top 3 swimmers in each event), they will have one last chance at the State meet to make regional times.  If they don't place today their swim season may be done.

Will they make it?
