Where was the best place to view Obama's inauguration? Was it on the Mall in DC, seeing it in person? At home with a loved one? At work? With strangers somewhere public?
I think I had an awesome seat yesterday. It was in my classroom. A classroom full of black, Hmong, Hispanic, Native American, African-American, and white students. A classroom that has about 80% free/reduced lunch due to low income. A classroom where each student now has a connection with a president of the US that they have never had before. I'll never forget the seat I had on that day.
After watching the inaugural address, we divided fractions.
That's incredibly cool. I've been asking kids I know whether or not they saw the inauguration. Many did, especially if they are in 5th grade and above.
ReplyDeleteI had the day off from work so Nora and I watched the inauguration from the comfort of our living room. I don't think I have every enjoyed an inauguration so much. I loved Izak Perleman and Yo Yo Ma and Michelle Obama telling the girls not to talk during the music. I also liked Aretha and The Hat. Pastor Rick Warren was in good form. It took courage for him to ally himself with Obama before the election. I also like the pastor who gave the benediction. I laughed at his version of the poem 'If Your'e Black'. Obama's speech was excellent. Challenging but inspirational. It has been said that great leaders emerge in troubled times. (Lincoln,FDR,Churchill) I am determined to be hopeful. Jim
